Exchange 2007 EdgeSync Service Failed

On our Exchange 2007 box, we keep seeing the following:

It has AVG Exchange Antivirus and Antispam installed.

Do we need the EdgeSync service in this case?

It is the only Exchange server we have.

This seems to occur after a windows update now and again.

The issue seems to be one of performance when starting all of the services somehow...?
