Dell RD-1000 Drive not available in Windows Backup 2008 R2

Why can I not select my Dell RD-1000 1TB disk drive system as a destination for my Windows Backup? The device shows up as a disk drive exactly the same as all of the devices that I can choose, so why can I not choose that?

Really frustrating as it means I cannot use this rather excellent device for server backup...

Make sure you are using an RD-1000 cartridge rather than the 500GB and that the larger cartridge will give you sufficient capacity to backup the entire server disk system.

This is because the RD-1000 drive appears to Windows as a DVD-RAM and so is not repeatedly writable - this means that Windows will not allow it as a backup device for scheduled backup.
Try changing the driver to make it a disk as that is what it really is anyway, you may have more luck...
